About
The Oakland Bridge is located in Douglas County on Old Hwy 99 (Oakland-Shady Highway) at the northern limits of the city of Oakland. The bridge connects downtown Oakland with Interstate 5 and carries traffic over Calapooya Creek and Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad (CORP).
The bridge was constructed in 1925 and has exceeded its useful lifespan. The narrow deck is limited to a single lane with traffic controlled by a signal at each end. This results in frequent delays and bottlenecking.
The bridge requires frequent repairs. Without replacement, it will continue to deteriorate beyond the point that routine maintenance will be enough to keep it open to traffic.
Working in partnership with Douglas County, ODOT will replace the bridge with a new structure containing two lanes of traffic and wide shoulders.
